Carol is an internationally recognized expert who has worked with nonprofit and government organizations and nonprofits for over 30 years. She began her career as a trauma therapist for child sexual abuse survivors and oversaw child advocacy, and programming for teenage girls and survivors of gender-based violence. She now serves on the UNWomen Ending Violence Against Women Expert Roster.
Carol Wick's leadership has been recognized over the years and she is the recipient of numerous awards including being named numerous years to the Orlando Magazine 50 Most Powerful, Orlando Business Journal CEO of the Year, Women Who Mean Business, Juneteenth Hometown Hero and three-time runner up for Central Floridian of the Year. Carol's contributions to women's rights have been recognized with accolades including the Feminist Leadership Award presented by Gloria Steinem at the Veteran Feminists of America 45th Anniversary Gala. Her work with domestic violence survivors follows a model of intersectionality and cultural competence
Carol's approach is global in scope and philosophy. She is frequently asked to keynote and speak at conferences. Carol shares her experiences to educate, inspire and challenge others to make the world better for everyone. In founding Sharity, Carol built an organization that works with an expressly intersectional, anti-racist, anti-oppressive orientation. These sensibilities were embedded in Sharity's work and day-to-day operations under her instruction. .
Coming up with new solutions to complex problems is a hallmark of Carol's work. For example, she developed an evidence-based community response to intimate partner violence and created the global award-winning R3App cited in the New England Journal of Medicine. In addition, Carol's work adapting best practices led to a significant decrease in domestic violence homicides and millions of dollars in tax savings in Central Florida, as well as the construction of one of the first onsite, stand-alone kennels and a trauma-informed, survivor designed shelter for families.
Carol Wick has a unique approach to solving complex problems. She has over 30 years of leadership experience in advocacy, leadership, nonprofit fundraising, and social change and draws on a background as a therapist, entrepreneur, and advocate. Her consulting work spans the globe - from China to Europe to Africa - working on various issues from human and animal rights, poverty, education, violence against women, and the environment.
Carol Wick is a true advocate at heart and frequently works on social justice issues and mentoring emerging leaders. Most recently, she successfully led the fight to pass Florida HB199 - Donna's Law - which eliminated the statute of limitations for sex crimes against children and HB673, which created the first Rape Kit tracking system.
She also spearheaded the public uncovering of the misappropriation of nearly $8M in funds by the Florida Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Carol risked all to ensure that the leadership was held accountable and funds were returned to where they belonged, helping survivors.
Carol has worked for over 30 years in the nonprofit sector from advocacy to research to the development of innovative programming.
